Emergency repairs to Cape Tribulation Road will commence this Friday, 8 February 2019

Emergency repairs to Cape Tribulation Road will commence this Friday 8 February 2019, weather permitting. Work is being fast-tracked to prevent further slippage where a large chunk of Cape Tribulation Rd was damaged over the Australia Day weekend.

Work will be done from 6am–6pm, seven days a week and traffic delays of up to one hour are expected over the next two weeks. Traffic controllers will be in place to manage traffic flows.

In total, repairs will take six weeks, but until drilling work is completed over the next fortnight, engineers cannot be more precise in terms of works schedule and traffic impacts.

Douglas Shire Council will work with businesses and residents to minimise disruptions, but resources (expertise, equipment and materials) are stretched with all the weather events in Queensland, so it is unlikely there will be much, if any flexibility to complete works prior to Easter.

The steep terrain and risk of further landslips on the Alexandra Range make repair work too dangerous to complete at night.
